Ariana Yelverton of Rayville was among 112 seniors who comprised the 34th graduating class of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts.

They participated in their commencement ceremony  May 19, in Prather Coliseum located on the campus of Northwestern State University.

Julian Hunter of Lafayette presented “What Makes This Place Special” for the senior address.

Hannah Rice of Mandeville sang the national anthem, Kerry Doyle of Eros led the Pledge of Allegiance and Kathy Barrios of Houma led the singing of the Alma Mater.

Corey Thomas Gilbert of Start graduated May 19 at Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux.

Gilbert earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting from the college of business administration.

Traveling to see Gilbert graduate were his parents, Ronnie and Teresa Gilbert of Winnsboro, James Oliver of Holly Ridge, Sevanna Oliver of Rayville, Rhonda Wilkes of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kenneth Gilbert, Alex Gilbert and Atticus Gilbert of Sulphur and Melva Gilbert of Start.

Three Spanish students from Mangham High School attained state and national recognition for excellence in foreign language learning.

A select group of MHS students participated in the National Spanish Examinations, which are administered each year in grades 6 through 12 and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. 

Freshman Aubrey Prewitt earned a bronze medal and sophomore Chapman Bazer received an honorable mention.
