Community day slated at Starr Homeplace

Starr Homeplace Heritage and Creatively Center offers a chance to step back in time on May 12.

Starr has been given many items from closed museums and has revived old times through the blacksmith shop and the gris mill. 

The center will host its May Community Day from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12, offering visitors a chance to tour 14 museums on the property as well as seeing blacksmith demonstrations and a working carpentry shop.

The center is located at the junction of Louisiana 133 and US 425 at 5317 Old Mer Rouge Road in Oak Ridge.

Richland Parish School Board members earn credits

Richland Parish’s school board members have met their continuing education requirements for the year.

School board members are required to obtain at least six hours of continuing education annually. At least one hour must be on ethics. 

Bobby Joe Chapman earned six 2017 convention credit hours and one 2017 ethics governance hour.

Chris Pruitt earned five 2017 convention credit hours and one 2017 ethics governance hour.

Eugene Young earned seven 2017 convention credit hours and one 2017 ethics governance hour.

Police Report

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of April 23-29.

• Alexis Ellis, 27, McCaa St., Rayville; disturbing the peace (general).

• Victor Welch, 22, 314 McClure St., Tallulah; theft greater than $300 and less than $500.

• Xavier Griffin, 18, 157 Legacy Drive, Rayville; disturbing the peace by fighting.

• Ja’Shawn Neal, 18, 148 B South Circle Drive, Rayville; disturbing the peace by fighting.

Local students initiated into ULM honor society

Karley Burgess of Mangham and Tristan Oswald of Rayville were recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

These residents are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. 

Police Report

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of April 15-22.

• Coboria Colllins, 37, 504 Spruce St., Rayville; driving under suspension, running a stop sign, failure to appear for driving under suspension, failure to appear for no insurance and failure to appear for careless operation with an accident.

• Ladeziman Briggs, 19, 1401 Erin St., Monroe; no driver’s license, speeding and resisting by flight.
