Man arrested for drugs after complaint by wife

Rayville Police Department Sgt. Tim Colvin was performing security at Winnsboro State Bank at 4:40 p.m. Oct. 4, when a vehicle pulled up beside him. The driver advised him that her husband, Christopher Jackson, was harassing her verbally, smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol in the presence of her two grandchildren and her daughter while in the car.

At this point, the passenger was asked to step out the vehicle so that Sgt. Colvin could obtain his identification.

Sgt. Colvin noticed that the subject was having issues with his balance and slurring his speech. Sgt. Colvin also detected a strong odor commonly associated with alcohol on or about his person. Sgt. Colvin performed a pat down of Jackson for officer safety and had him sit on the curb.

The complainant gave verbal consent to search the area where Jackson was sitting. As Sgt. Colvin searched the passenger front seat area of the vehicle, he found two empty beer cans, one half-drunk beer in the cup holder and what was left of a twelve pack (nine beers) in the floorboard. He also found a green pill bottle containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana. The pill bottle had the suspects name on the label.  At this point, Jackson was arrested, verbally Mirandized and placed in Sgt. Colvin’s unit. Jackson was transported to Richland Parish Detention Center to await bond.

Chief Robinson would like to commend Sgt. Colvin for his hard work and encourages all citizens to come by Rayville Police Department at 900 Harrison Street or call 318-728-4431 if you need his help in any way.
