Know your blood pressure to protect your heart health

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women.

The number one risk factor for heart disease is Hypertension, which is known as high blood pressure.

Hypertension is also referred to as “the silent killer” because there are typically no symptoms.  About 1 of 3 U.S. adults or about 75 million people have high blood pressure.  Only about half (54%) of these people have their high blood pressure under control.

There are many lifestyle factors that contribute to hypertension which are diet (excessive sodium and alcohol intake), physical inactivity, tobacco use, stress, and obesity.  So start now with prevention and learning the ways to reduce your risk of heart disease or to get your numbers under control.

Some of those ways consist of reducing the intake of dietary cholesterol, limiting fat intake, limiting sodium intake, increasing dietary fiber intake, increasing fruit and vegetable intake, and staying active!

Remember those ways and put forth the action to fight back against heart disease!
