DAR hears historic highlights of Washington D.C.

Boeuf River Chapter NSDAR met Monday April 15, 2019 in the Richland Parish Library.

Hostesses were Mary Griffen, Sue Pailette and Judie Bell. Members and guests enjoyed delicious refreshments during a social period.

Regent Angela Hales called the meeting to order and led the DAR ritual. We were glad to have guest Diane Abraham for the program and Charlotte White from Winnsboro to install new officers.

Mrs. Abraham is enjoying Washington D.C., along with her husband, Congressman Ralph Abraham. Her subject was concerning guiding tours of our nation’s Capitol, touching upon its special places and history. This is a very special and beautiful. It has an interesting long story.

Another stop on her tours is the White House, home of the president. This is also another famous, well-known attraction. An interesting note was the Oval office was designed as an oval because the president did not want anyone to be in the corner.

This is a gorgeous home, filled with history.

Another special part of her tours is Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington.

This is a mansion with so much we can see homes of that period. It consists of 2,000 acres located near the Potomac River in Washington.

Some of Washington’s life’s high points included being in the Army, a planter, a whiskey maker, in the Continental Congress, marrying Martha Curtis and having the great respect of people.

The famous city is a place all Americans can be proud of and full of patriotic sites. Everyone enjoyed this. We appreciate Mrs. Abraham coming to us.

Another service followed. Mrs. Charlotte White from Winnsboro, who is Louisiana State National Daughters of the American Revolutions Regent Elect installed officers for the coming years. They are Regent Mary Griffen, Vice Regent Jodie Lee Waller, Chaplain Gayle Waller, Recording secretary Charlotte Ann Sims, Corresponding secretary Jamie Harrell, Treasurer Dora Heath, Registrar, Angela Hales, Historian Mary Pruitt and Parliamentarian Kaye Sharbono.

Our chapter wants to express a special word of appreciation to Regent Angela Hales who has served several years. Not many small towns have a chapter. Ours has been outstanding on reports and paid members. Regent Hales has given numerous hours at meetings, local, state and national conventions,  and working with district and state officers and projects while our leader.

Business covered we adjourned.

Charlotte Sims is secretary of the Boeuf River Chapter, NSDAR.
