Delhi Bears still undefeated after week four

The Delhi Bears are still undefeated four games into the season following their 22-21 victor over the Cedar Creek Cougars.

Cedar Creek actually took the lead 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, but Delhi came back strong with two unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 14-6 lead at halftime. The Bears scored on a 17-yard pass to tie the game up 6-6, then score again with a second pass and chipped in the two-point conversion to seal the lead.

Cedar Creek tied it up again in the third quarter by scoring eight points for to enter the final quarter at 14-14. 

In the fourth quarter, the Cougars scored on a one-yard plunge and followed up with a solid PAT for a 21-14 lead.

With two minutes left in the game, the Bears completed another pass to narrow Cedar Creek’s lead to 21-20. Rushing in the two-point conversion put the game away for the Bears with a final score of 22-21.

This week, the Bears will host OCS in a District 2-1A match. The Eagles come into the game at 3-1 after a win against Sicily Island last Friday.

Rayville 26,  Ferriday 20

The Rayville Hornets are still looking for their first win of the season following a 30-26 loss to the Ferriday Trojans last Friday night.

Rayville jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the first quarter and widened it to 20-8 by half time. 

Ferriday came alive in the third quarter, scoring 22 points to Rayville’s six to lead 30-26 going into the fourth quarter. That lead stood with neither team scoring and Ferriday got the win.

This week, the Hornets will travel to Vidalia to take on the Vikings in a District 2-2A game. The Vikings are 3-1 following their win over Beekman last Friday night.

Delhi Charter 25, Mangham, 18

The Delhi Charter School Gators defeated the Mangham Dragons 25-18 last Friday night.

Mangham came out to a 12-7 lead at the end of first quarter but DCS pulled ahead 13-12 by the half. The Dragons score six unanswered points in the third quarter to get back in the lead 18-13. The Gators then scored twice in the fourth quarter while keeping the Dragons out of the end zone and took the victory with a final score of 25-18.

DCS quarterback J’Quan Polly completed his only pass attempt by hitting Marcellus Crear for 33 yards and a touchdown.

Chester McDaniel led the DCS ground attack with 20 carries for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Polly ran 13 times for 103 yards and a touchdown.

George Purvis kicked in one PAT for an extra point.

Cameron McDaniel ran six times for 18 yards while DeMontral Williams had five carries for 14 yards and James Thomas had one carry for eight yards.

Cameron McDowell also led the defense with nine tackles on the night. Hayden Arledge had five, James Thomas had four, Reid Arledge and Jamarious Longino had three each, Christian Dean and Trayveon Houston had two each and DeMontral Williams had one.

The win boosts DCS to 2-2 on the season as they prepare to host 2-2 D’Arbonne Woods Friday in a non-district game.

Mangham falls t0 1-3 on the season as they get ready to host Beekman in a District 2-2A match on Friday.
