Mangham to take part in Bayou Jamb

The Mangham Dragons will play Oak Grove at 3 p.m. Aug. 25 as part of this year’s Bayou Jamb

Bayou Jamb 2018 marks the 10 year anniversary of Bayou Jamb.

Bayou Jamb began in 2006 and is now considered Louisiana’s largest two-day high school football event in North Louisiana. Celebrating the 10 year anniversary, Bayou Jamb has expanded into a two-day event, Aug. 24-25 on the ULM campus at Malone Stadium. 

Lady Raiders split games in full week of action

The Riverfield Academy Lady Raiders split six games during a full week of action.

The Lady Raiders started the week playing Glenbrook on July 31. Riverfield lost the game 12-11 in extra innings (10).

Gandy pitched well with Bennett in relief. Allen, Barker, Payne and Gibson led the Lady Raider with multiple hits each.

The Lady Raiders bounced back on Aug. 2 with a convincing 8-0 shutout win over Cathedral of Natchez. Bennett pitched superbly with a nice defensive effort behind her. Parker, Sanders and Lewis led the hitting attach with multiple hits and an RBI each.

Lady Raiders open softball season with five wins in tourney games

The Riverfield Academy Lady Raider softball team opened its 2018 season this past Friday and Saturday in impressive fashion, taking five wins in six games.

Timely hitting and pitching proved to be the Raiders best weapon against the five teams they competed against.

Hosting the 10th annual Lady Raider softball tournament, Coach Kyle King seemed pleased with his team’s grit and focus.

“Our pitching was very good for opening day and our hitting got better as we become more confident,” he said. “Defensively, we were average, but that will be cleaned up.”

Sisters win in district track

Riverfield Academy’s Haley and Holly Salsbury recently attended the MAIS District 3A Meet at MRA in Canton, Miss.

Haley won first place in the 3200, 1600 and 800 meter race. Holly won second place in the 800 meter race.

Both attended the South State Tournament at Clinton on April 28. Haley Salsbury took first place in the 3200 (two mile), 1600 (two mile) and the 800 meter race. Holly Salsbury took third place in the 800 meter race.

DCS tracks teams off to strong start in 2018

The DCS Track teams are off to a strong start this season with two meets under their belt.

The track teams competed in the T ri State D&H Relays March 3 and Cedar Creek March 8.

The DCS girls brought home the Cougar Relay  championship with a number of first place medals and other valuable scorers. 

In the field events: Ashari Jones took first place discus and second shot put while Megan Holloway took second place in long jump and third in triple jump.
