Rayville Hornet basketball dynasty looks good in 2021

What does D-Y-N-A-S-T-Y spell?

If it doesn’t spell Rayville High School boys basketball, it doesn’t spell anything. Look at the record. Every year they don’t win the state championship, they go deep in the tournament.  And last year they came within 26 seconds of  winning a three-peat.

I think after this season is over, I’ll be saying  they came within 26 seconds of making it four in a row. In district 2-AA no one can remember if or when they lost a game.

Maybe there are some grandfathers that remember. I know I don’t.

Lady Hornets make most of season

Despite this Covid-challenged season, the Rayville girls basketball team has played 19 games thus far and stand 10-9.

This  is primarily because in pre-district play Coach J. Sneed looks for the toughest teams she can find to get them ready for district and the playoffs.

Even so, they have some good wins over some of these strong teams. They beat 5A Karr 52-49 in overtime. They beat Booker T. Washington on their home court 66-64. They played Ouachita tough, losing only 62-67.

Mangham defeats Kentwood to advance in playoffs

Mangham’s quarterback Kaleb Pleasant completed six of 13 pass attempts for Mangham, adding 81 yards and one touchdown.

He connected with Shun Haynes twice for 14 yards and a touchdown, J.T. Smith three times for 28 yards, Joe Williams once for 27 yards and Cam Wilmore once for 12 yards.

Mangham, Delhi head to next playoff round

The Mangham Dragons won their first-round playoff game last Friday night, defeating the Madison Jaguars 55-18.

The win boosts the Dragons to 9-0 on the season, leaving them undefeated as they prepare to play Kentwood in the next round of the playoffs Friday.

The Dragons rolled up 385 yards offense against the Panthers, earning 347 yards on the ground and 38 in the air.

Kaleb Pleasant led the air attack, going three for eight as he hit Tae Gayden twice for 38 yards an a touchdown. Pleasant also carried the ball 12 times for 85 yards and a touchdown.
