Riverfield JV Lady Raiders take district championship

When it comes to focus and commitment, the Riverfield JV Lady Raiders have proven they have both this season.

With a 32-20 win over Clinton Christian Academy on Saturday, the Lady Raiders clinched the title of MAIS District 3A Champions.

Contributing to the scoreboard were ninth graders Taylor Herrington and Ella Worsley with 9 points each and eighth graders Lily Grace Sullivan with 7 points, Hannah Adams with 4 points and Jordy Crocket with 3 points.

Lady Hornets on track to take state playoff berth

After a tough pre-district schedule, Coach Jo Sneed is getting the Rayville  Hornet girls’ basketball team on track for a run in the state playoffs with big wins over Mangham 85-43 and Bastrop 74-47.

Mangham came in a couple of power points (12-14) ahead of Rayville. With these two victories the Lady Hornets have moved up to ninth in the state.

At 4-0 in the district, it appears they will have little competition in #2 -2A especially since Ferriday and Vidalia have cancelled their seasons. The problem now is finding enough games to play and get in playoff shape.

Hornets dominate against Mangham, Bastrop teams

Well, not much to report since our last column.

Mangham came into town Friday and Bastrop on Monday and it was pretty much “Ho Hum” as the Rayville Hornets did it again. Blew them out 90-35 and 94-40 respectively.

Scoring, though vital, is such a small part of the game when you consider assists, rebounds (defensive and offensive) steals, turnovers and percentage of shots made just to mention a few other nuances of the game.  However, if I were able (which I’m not) to report on all phases of the game, I might be giving you more information than you want.

Hornets dominate the courts in basketball action

I stand corrected on  the height of the Hornets.

Last week I said something about “barely 6’1”.”  Kashie Natt says he is 6’3” and Devon Ellis says he is 6’5”.  I think they are getting measured in the doctor’s office with very thick-soled shoes on. They just don’t look tall, but that doesn’t matter. They play tall. This is evidenced by the lop-sided victories since our report last week.

Mangham, Rayville players make all district

Member of the Dragons on the first team defense are defensive MVP Joe Williams, Tae Gayden, Josh
Uchtmann, Donte Straughter and Trey Massey.
