Riverfield wins big over River Oaks on Thursday

In a Thursday night match up, the Riverfield Raiders upped their season record to 3-0 last  week.

The Raiders played host to the River Oaks Mustangs in the annual BEAT RIVER OAKS bout. This year Riverfield proved early on to be the more dominant team.

The Raiders came out and took care of business early and by half time they were leading 33-0. River Oaks opened the second half by kicking off to the Raiders. Garrett brakefield took the kick and ran it back 80 yards for a touch down driving the final nail into the Mustang coffin so to speak. With just seconds gone off the clock it put Riverfield up 40-0 and set the game clock in the constant run mode making for a quick second half.

Although the second half was quick it wasn’t so quick that the second string Raiders didn’t get to see some good playing action. One more touch down was added to the score as freshman Addison Shelton scored his first ever varsity touchdown on a five yard run. Freshman quarterback Drew Holley went 2 for 3 completing passes to Colton Williams and Cooper Eldridge. The game ended with the score being Riverfield 47 River Oaks 0.

The Raiders gained 243 yards rushing and 78 yards passing in the game. Hudson Brakefield was the leading rusher in the game with 116 yards on 13 carries. Hudson scored three touch downs. Along with his 80 yard kick off return Garrett Brakefield gained 39 yards on five carries. Garrett scored twice. Colton Williams gained 41 yards on eight carries. Brett Whorten gained 39 yards on five carries, while Addison Shelton gained eight yards on two carries scoring once.

In the passing game Garrett Brakefield was one for one, gaining seven yards, Braxton Shelton was two for three, gaining 54 yards while Drew Holley was two for three, gaining 17 yards.

Defensively the Raiders scored once as Ty Skeldon picked off a Mustang pass and took it 68 yards for a touch down midway through the second quarter. The raiders also looked their best so far on PAT’s as Jackson Shelton kicked for three extra points. Cayden Odom and Evan Bickford each kicked one.

The Raiders will be in action tomorrow night at Hillcrest Christian Academy in Jackson. See all you Raider fans there. Kick off at 7 p.m. -h
