Rayville girls defeat Kentwood in 58-9 blowout

What does one say in a game that was supposed to happen but didn’t?

I guess you could tell how it didn’t happen. To do that we have to go back a week before the phantom game was to be played. Rayville, true to form, made a late surge in the power ranking. The last two weeks he Lady Hornets vaulted from 14th to ninth and then supposedly made it to eighth.  Which meant that the girls would play the first two games at home.

Not to happen.

Somehow when the final rankings were posted Rayville was back at 9, which meant our girls would play the second week at Jonesboro.  (Where did  they come from?)

So the Kentwood Kangaroos came to town with a 3-9 record and a 24th seed. No problem yet. But they failed to score in the first quarter. But then they didn’t score in the second quarter, 51-0 at the half. The game was not as close as the score indicated. The ““mercy” clock was invoked at 4:15 to play in the second quarter. The earliest I’ve ever seen. It was 56-2 with 2:14 to play in the third.  Final score 59-9.

Nothing left but to list the Hornets who scored: Amari West, 19; Samiyah Smith, 11; Naail Webb, 9; Zykera Webb and Jalecia Miller, six each; Lelia Anna Wood, five; and Za’Quandrea Jackson added three.

This set up the game with Jonesboro, the #8 seed, that was played on Tuesday passed press time.

The #1 boys play here at home on Friday with as yet an unnamed foe.
