Raiders defeat Bayou Academy Colts, 33-7

In yet another road trip, the Riverfield Raiders secured another victory this past Friday night in Cleveland, Miss.

The Raiders defeated the Bayou Academy Colts by a score of 33-7.

The Raiders got on the board first late in the first quarter with a nine-yard passing play where Trent Ginn connected with Brier Williamson resulting in six points. Ginn added one on the PAT.

 The first quarter ended with the Raiders leading 7-0.

The Raiders went on to control the pace and momentum of the game throughout the second quarter. They scored twice in the quarter with the run. Trent Ginn ran for 78 yards in the early minutes of the quarter. The PAT failed but the Raiders had a 13-10 lead.

In the closing minutes of the quarter, Ginn scored again on a one-yard run. A two-point PAT ran in by Brett Whorton put the Raiders up 21-0 at the half.

The second half started out good for the Raiders. The Colts received the opening kickoff but lost the ball on a fumble which was recovered by Riverfield’s Jackson Greer. The fumble recovery resulted in the first Raider touchdown of the second half when Brett Whorton ran the ball 18 yards for the score. A missed PAT put the Raiders in control at 27-0.

Bayou scored their seven points on the night about midway through the third quarter on a one-yard run and a one-point PAT.

The Raiders put the icing on the cake early in the fourth quarter when Ginn ran the ball in from nine yards out. The PAT was no good but the score of 33.7 held until the final horn sounded.

The Raiders total offensive yardage for the game was 396. Of that, 354 was rushing and 42 was passing.

In the rushing game, Hudson Brakefield had five carries for 18 yards.

Brakefield who has been a powerful rushing force for the Raiders this year had to leave the game early because of a dislocated thumb injury. He is recovering well from it and is expected to see action this Friday night.

In Brakefield’s absence, the Raiders adjusted quite well. Ginn tallied up 151 yards on 15 carries. Brett Whorton had 147 yards on 21 carries. 

lex McHenry carried the ball nine times for 41 yards and Colton Williams carried the ball two times for four yards.

In the passing game, Ginn was three for eight and 42 yards. Ginn completed to Whorton once for 17 yards and twice to Brier Williamson for 25 yards.

Defensively, the Raiders held the Colts to 148 total yards of offense. There were three Colt turnovers in the game, two fumbles and one pass interception.

The Raiders will be in action Friday night at home against Brookhaven Academy. This will be an important matchup to determine the district championship.

Opening kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
