The Town of Rayville will add a new well to its water system thanks to a Louisiana Community Development Block Grant.

Rayville Mayor Harry Lewis said the LDCBG grant will provide the town with $796,000 to plan and create the well.

“This is going to be a good thing for us because it will allow us to find a source of better quality water and hopefully improve the quality of water in the town,” Lewis said.

Lewis said Sen. Francis Thompson and Rep. Bubba Chaney were instrumental in getting the $796,000 grant for the town so that the system could be improved without using town funds.

He added that the town is now looking for a place to locate the new well. After that, negotiations with land owners will be necessary to secure a spot for the well and for piping the water back to the town’s existing water treatment plant so that the new well can be tied into the system.
