Addressing the issues

There are a few issues I’d like to address to keep the public up to date on Police Jury work thus far. It’s been much hotter and drier for June than in the past, hasn’t it? You see farmers irrigating cotton, corn and soybeans and wonder if they’ll see a profit this year.
Heat is one thing I need to discuss. When we have triple digit temperatures, or high 90s, it shows on the roads. The tar base starts a melt process, which hardens back during the night. Meanwhile, the traffic on the roads during the day time will create indentations in the “trail”. This is an unavoidable circumstance as we don’t have the money or equipment to build the type of roads you’ll find with State and Federal roads. While we do get a certain amount of funding through grants, it’s never enough. We have, however, made quite a bit of progress on our road program this year. Our road superintendent started at the right time and is plugging on to get our allotted roads done by September. The roads I’m referring to are our Capital Improvement roads which the state has us determine through the use of an engineer. No, the jurors are not able to pick the roads which need to be redone anymore.
The new pipeline company has arrived now. This means their 18-wheelers will be making an impact on roads we can barely keep held together as it is. I want to thank the residents of this Parish for their patience so far and ask that you continue to bear with us. I’m only familiar with the roads in my district that are being used by the pipelines, and they have put potholes in those roads already. If you’re wondering about the roads in your district, please contact your Police Juror.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation to date.

Sincerely,
Judy A Green
