Coach Joe Meeks looks over his Riverfield Raider Baseball squad and makes a bold statement.
“This could be the most talent on any team I’ve ever coached at Riverfield,” he said.
Considering the fact that Meeks has skippered two state championship teams during his tenure at Riverfield, this does qualify as bold.
“Our two titles here are Riverfield consisted of two outstanding teams,” Meeks said as he emphasized team. “If these guys want to be champions, they’ll continue to work hard and do what it takes to become better as a team. Some of these boys started on the varsity team as eighth and ninth graders. They took some lumps, gathered experience and had to grow up real fast. But now as seniors, they’ll provide much needed guidance to each other and the younger teammates.”
Two former players join Meeks this year as assistant coaches, Gary Cater and Stuart King. Cater and King believe the team concept has really taken off and five wins in five days proved the team had bought in to what Meeks and staff were selling. Also, good news for Raider baseball, 20 players on the roster, a full schedule of JV games, outstanding faciltiies to play their home games and some of the best fans around awaiting their team to bring another title home.
