Former educator honored by RHS alumni and staff

Camille C. Newsom  was honored Friday night during Rayville High School’s football game.

A memorial plaque and photograph commemorating Newsom’s service as an educator was presented to RHS principal Dr. Rontez Williams by former RHS principle Dr. Georgia Ineichen, classmates of the class of 1967 and other graduates of Rayville High will present a memorial plaque and photograph. 

Sheriff provides advice for safe trick or treating

Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley would like to remind part that trick-or-treating is a great adventure for children.

However, parents should keep it fun by preparing themselves and their children for a safe night out.

He asks that parents remember these basic safety tips.

• You, or a responsible adult should always accompany children ages 12 and under when trick-or-treating.

• Ensure costumes fit well, are flame retardant, and never obscure visibility.

• Have your trick-or-treater wear reflective clothing and/or carry a light or glow stick.

Drug turn-in day slated

Delhi Hospital’s Community of Hope program and the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office are joining forces to host a prescription drug take back day Saturday.

People may bring unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs to the Brookshire’s in Delhi, the Wal-Mart in Rayville or the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office in Rayville to drop them off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26.

The program is designed to help people get rid of prescription drugs they no longer need in order to keep them from being lost, stolen or misused.

Operation Christmas Child:

First Baptist Church, Rayville, will serve as the collection point for this year’s Operation Christmas Child.

Church members will collect boxes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 19-23, from 3-5 p.m. Nov. 24 and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 25.

The boxes will be shipped out Nov. 25.

Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, has delivered 157 million gift-filled shoeboxes to boys and girls around the world.

Mangham prepares for homecoming week

Mangham High School is ready for homecoming.

The theme for homecoming week is “The Greatest Show/School on Earth.” Students at the junior high and high school will be allowed to dress up according to the spirit days: Monday, Circus Animals; Tuesday, Clowns; Wednesday, Mimes; Thursday, Ring Master and Friday, Wear purple and white.
