“Peace River” is a Christian cowboy movie exploring faith, love and loyalty; open Thursday at select theaters

Ben Jones wouldn’t mind “Peace River” becoming an overnight success. But that’s only if over a decade counts as “overnight.”
When the Baton Rouge oil executive’s inspirational movie get shown at the Cinemark Perkins Row and 560 screens nationwide on Thursday night, it will have taken that long for his idea to become a reality. His original concept didn’t envision some of the casting decisions it would entail.

Northeast Louisiana Stockshow under way

The Northeast Louisiana Livestock Show is now underway in Delhi.

Exhibitors from throughout northeast Louisiana are already gathered at the Livestock Show Barn in Delhi and judging is underway.

Meanwhile, the 82nd annual parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Feb. 4 in downtown Delhi.

Musician Zach O’Neil will warm up the crowd beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.

This year the parade will be led by the American Flag carried by Abby Claire Hillman, daughter of Vince and Susan Hillman  of Epps.

Police Report

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of Jan. 9-16.

• Anthony Sledge, 53, 214 Dacron St., Rayville; disturbing the peace, general.

• David Williams, 35, 424 Dacron St., Rayville; no driver’s license and failure to secure registration and license.

• Jason Prince, 40, 24 Cooper Lane, Oak Ridge; shoplifting.

• Robert Harris, 24, 1709 South 5th St., Monroe; hit and run, failure to secure license and registration, no insurance, improper turn with an accident and no driver’s license.

Delhi man arrested in connection with Grambling shooting

Louisiana State Police along with the assistance of several other agencies located Jatavious Carroll Dec. 29 at a residence in Delhi.

Carroll was wanted for second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and possessing a weapon/firearm on school property. 

He was arrested and will be booked into the Lincoln Parish jail. 

Carroll, 18, of Delhi was identified as being involved in an Oct. 13 shooting in Grambling which injured a 16-year-old juvenile of Rayville and led to the death of 19-year-old Damarius Murphy of Rayville.

Suspect jailed in Delhi shooting

The Delhi Police Department arrested a suspect in a recent shooting within four hours of the crime, Delhi Police Chief Roy Williams said.

He said the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls at 4:48 p.m. Aug. 29 in reference to a shooting on Andover Drive in Delhi. Delhi Police Department officers responded to the scene and witnesses told officers two victims had been transported to Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi in a personal vehicle.
