Youth honor MLK’s memory

Hundreds of people lined Martin Luther King Street Monday to celebrate the life of the late civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King.

Numerous churches and elected officials took part in the parade, which also featured marching bands from Delhi, Rayville and Lake Providence High Schools.

Winners in the floats competition were Walmart, first place; Order of Eastern Star Love Chapter 49, second place; and Mt. Zion B.C., third place.

Following the parade, the crowd gathered at the Rayville Civic Center where Richland Parish School Superintendent Sheldon Jones addressed the crowd.

The day’s festivities were capped with a banquet at the Cviic Center where the Rev. Eric William Ross provided the keynote address.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Society president Norman Wilson and secretary Phyllis Dorsey wish to thank all the public officials, churches, students, civic groups and businesses for helping to make the annual event a success.
