Stockshow recognizes Scott family contributions

By Keith Collins

The Board of Directors of the Northeast LA Livestock Show dedicated the 2010 show to Mrs. Betty Cummins and the Scott Foundation.

Tom and Mayme P. Scott established the Thomas H. and Mayme P. Scott Foundation in 1961.

As founders of the Scott Companies, they were interested in establishing a Foundation through which they could give back to the community, state and nation they so deeply loved.

One of the primary goals over the past 49 years has been to support and educate young people. In 1989, the Scotts celebrated 50 years in business.

As a tribute to that special anniversary, Mr. Scott, through his foundation, established a 4-H scholarship to be awarded annually to a graduating senior in all of the parishes in Louisiana, ten counties in Arkansas and ten counties in Mississippi.

In addition, the Scott foundation has supported the Northeast District Livestock Show for ten years. It was Mr. Scotts firm belief that if you encouraged a young person to “ reach for their dreams” you would go far in making them a happy and productive adult.

Tom and Mayme Scott had two children, Betty Cummins who currently serves as Chairman of the Scott foundation and their son, Tom Scott Jr. who serves on the Board of Directors of the Foundation.

The Northeast LA Livestock Show Board of Directors would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation for the efforts and contributions Mrs. Betty Cummins continues through the Scott Foundation to support youth in Louisiana.
