Sims featured as Rhymes artist of the month
Dorothy Long Sims of West Monroe, formerly of Rayville, is the artist of the month for March at Rhymes Memorial Library.
She was born and raised in Rayville and graduated from Rayville High School. She moved to Monroe, became a successful realtor and went on to become a real estate broker and qualified draftsman. Dorothy is good at everything she undertakes. She does crochet, quilting, china painting, porcelain dolls, and boudoir dolls. She also does oil and water color painting.
Dorothy teaches arts and crafts at the West Ouachita Senior Center. People donate items for the seniors to use and Dorothy has to come up with ideas where they can use the donated items. She has taught the seniors to make crepe paper dolls, paint light bulbs and use plastic water bottles to make Jewelry. Dorothy also assists in teaching china painting. She taught oil painting for nine years. She also volunteers for Hospice.
Dorothy is a member of the Twin City Porcelain Art Guild and is very active in her church.
Come by Rhymes Memorial Library and see a collection of her work. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
