Registration deadline nears

Feb. 22 is the last day to register to vote for the March 24 election.

Early voting will be held from March 3-17 and requests for mail ballots must be made to the registrar or voters by March 30 and ballots returned by March 23.

Richland Parish Registrar of Voters Carol Morgan reminds residents that only those voters registered as Republicans or Democrats will be allowed to vote in the presidential preference primary election March 24.

Elections will also be held for local party committee members for the Democrat and Republicans party.

Those vying for the Democratic nomination for president are:

“Bob” Ely of Lake Forest, Ill., Barack Obama of Chicago, Ill., Darcy G. Richardson of Jacksonville, Fla., and John Wolfe of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Those vying for the Democratic nomination for president are: Michele Bachmann of Stillwater, Minn., Randy Crow of Kelly, N.C., Newt Gingrich of McLean, Va., Jon Huntsman of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ron Paul of Lake Jackson, Texas, Rick Perry of Austin, Texas, Charles “Buddy” Roemer of Baton Rouge, Mitt Romney of Belmont, Mass., and Rick Santorum of Great Falls, Va.

Those running in other races are unopposed.

Linda Jenkins Turner of Monroe is running unooposed for DSCC Member 19th Representative District, Office “A”.

Charles Walter Cochran of Rayville is running unopposed for DSCC Member 19th Representative District, Office “B”

George Bill Tennant of Rayville and Timothy Tennant of Rayville are seeking two of the five spots for DPEC member at large.

Lennon “Butch” Whitney Sr, of Delhi is seeking the spot for DPEC Member District 2.

Jennifer Tennant of Rayville is seeking the post of DPEC Member District 6.

Doyle E. Robinson of Mangham is running for RSCC Member 19th Representative District, Subdistrict B.

Gaylon Tanner of Delhi is running for RPEC Member at Large.

William L. Bruce Jr., of Mangham is running for Justice of the Peace in Ward 5.
