Night hike slated at Poverty Point
EPPS – Do you wonder what goes bump in the night? Join us for a nature hike and you might discover just that. A Poverty Point State Historic Site ranger will lead a night hike on March 13, 2010, at dusk, or 7:30 p.m.
Visitors will start with an orientation in the museum, which includes an introduction to the site and a discussion of the purpose and goals of the hike. Next, guests will begin a 1-1/2 mile hike, discussing the different plants and animals, culminating with some storytelling around a campfire. Rangers will also answer questions as to the ancient people of Poverty Point and their culture. The $2.00 entrance fee to the park will be waived for guests participating in the hike. Flashlights will be provided. Hikers need to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Poverty Point State Historic Site offers visitors the opportunity to study culture of area inhabitants from 1600 to 1300 B.C. Poverty Point is located in West Carroll Parish, east of Monroe on La. 577.
