Road sign theft not acceptable

To the Editor:

This letter is written to address a perpetual problem in our community; namely, the constant removal of the road sign on BUNNITT ROAD.

It has been said these signs are removed by individuals. My question is, “Of what use is a road sign to the perpetrator?”

My parents taught me that the act of taking something that did not be long to me was known as thievery. They also taught me that thievery was unlawful.

There is a reason for placing signs on roads. They’re here for the purpose of giving directions to people who do not live in the community or area.

Replacing road signs requires extra time and effort for parish workers and involves funds that could be used on other projects.

The absence of a road sign could be a matter of life and death. People are in danger of loss of life or home because a road sign has been removed and paramedics or the fire department is called and cannot locate a residence.

Perhaps those who remove road signs have not considered the impact that could result from their lack of consideration.

Thank you,
Ola W. Bunnitt
