COA supplies elderly with box fans

The Richland Voluntary Council on Aging is helping seniors beat the heat this summer.

COA executive director Beth Whatley has organized the charitable donation of 40 box fans to be given out to those in need over the summer. The COA along with Bayou Bingo, the Richland Arts Council and the Rayville High School Boosters are purchasing 30 fans. Wal-Mart has donated 10 more fans to complete this first round of giving to those in need. The COA is also accepting donations for the purchase of fans.

Fans are available to those 60-years or older who are either unable to afford an air conditioner or unable to pay for the electricity to run one.

To apply for a fan or make a donation, contact the COA at 728-2646 or go by the meal site at 414 Harrison St., in Rayville between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays or 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Fridays.

In Delhi, call 878-9520 or visit the center at 856 Broadway Square #1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays.
